05/01/06 - EAA SPORT PILOT TOUR FLIES AGAIN IN GEORGIA
Despite less than ideal weather, more than 300 recreational enthusiasts came to the Gwinnett County Airport (LZU) in Lawrenceville, Georgia, for the EAA Sport Pilot Tour Saturday, April 29.
With nearly a dozen light-sport aircraft manufacturers on the grounds, visitors could get a close look at some of the industry’s latest available aircraft models. EAA’s sport pilot experts conducted a series of educational forums throughout the day on nearly every aspect of the sport pilot initiative.
Forty-one EAA members seized the opportunity to obtain a free sport pilot student pilot certificate, provided by EAA. Questions asked and answered came from a variety of interest levels, from those just getting into aviation to those considering returning after several years. Growing interest in the instructional community continued as several CFIs attended.
EAA Chapter 690 served as host of the event, providing the use of their chapter facilities as well as volunteers to help run the event.
“The tour stop went very smoothly, even thought the weather was not as cooperative as we had hoped,” said EAA Sport Pilot Tour Manager Ron Wagner. “This shows us that people out there are very interested in sport pilot and are looking to find out as much as they can to get started.” EAA’s Joe Norris was also in Lawrenceville.
EAA’s traveling road show continues this Saturday, May 6, at the Smyrna, Tennessee Airport (MQY), near Nashville. Host is EAA Chapter 162 at the Smyrna Air Center. Other upcoming tour stops include:

August 19, AirLake (LVN) Airport, Lakeville, Minnesota (Minneapolis area)
Host: EAA Chapter 25
December 2 - Flabob Airport (RIR) Riverside, California
