01/25/07 - LSA-AERO’S S100 FREEDOM AMPHIBIAN RECEIVES FAA EXEMPTION
LSA-Aero’s S100 Freedom is the second amphibious special light-sport aircraft with a repositionable landing gear to receive an FAA grant of exemption, thus allowing it to be operated as special light-sport aircraft (S-LSA). The Freedom is a carbon composite pusher powered by the Rotax 912S turning a three-blade Arplast Ecoprop GL/3 ground-adjustable carbon composite propeller. Its detachable wings and tail allow it to be trailered.
“We got the exemption!” Langford exclaimed in an e-mail announcement. “Thanks to everyone for their unwavering support.” Coincidentally at last week’s EAA/FAA Oshkosh Recreational Aviation Summit, FAA officials announced they would remedy the inconsistency in the sport pilot/light-sport aircraft rules that prohibit certification of aircraft with a repositionable landing gear.
