A sport pilot wants me to conduct a flight review (BFR), can I do this?
What does an existing CFI (under subpart H) need to do to instruct sport pilot students?
I am a CFI. My student has necessary experience for light sport license and I find him competent and proficient in his LSA Taylorcraft. Now he wants a checkride with an examiner but the examiner will have to be 100 lbs or less to remain under gross weight (with 1.5 hrs fuel). Can he use a cessna 150 (not LSA) for his Sport Pilot checkride?
I am a current private pilot. What training do I need to become a Sport Pilot Instructor.
I am a DPE in Houston and I have a request for a Sport Pilot check ride in an Ercoupe 415C with the original Ercoupe controls. In the past, if I gave a check ride in an Ercoupe, the applicant was restricted to only an Ercoupe. If he wanted to fly another aircplane with conventional controls, he would take another check ride. Is this also true for the Sport Pilot?
I don't have a current flight review and there are no aircraft available for rent that meet the definition of the LSA. Can I take my flight review with a CFI in an aircraft that is not a LSA?
I will be instructing in my E-LSA. I want to rent my E-LSA to my students. Any issues?

I took an hour of instruction in prep for taking my flight review. I did ok, but I mention my intintions of operating as a sport pilot to the CFI. He told me he couldn't endorse me because I don't have acurrent 3rd class Med. I told him I don't need a medical certificate to fly at the sport pilot level, but must take and pass the flight review. He doesn't know how to handle this situation. What do the Regs state and paragraph I can refer him to.
I am a commercial/instrument rated pilot with over 5000 hrs. I am also a BFI with 250 hours in a Challenger 2. I have an up-to-date physical and the letters for completion of the BFI refresher and the Instructor Knowledge exam. What must I do to become a Sport Pilot CFI?
Does my instructor need to make a special logbook endorsement for sport pilot flight reviews?
Where in New Jersey or PA can I take lessons in a approved SLSA aircraft?
Can I receive all or at least part of my sport pilot instruction in an aircraft that does not meet the criteria for sport pilot compliance?
I currently hold a PP-SEL license and have logged close to 250 hours. I have thought about obtaining my CFI for Single Engine Aircraft. However if I am correct a CFI certificate requires a commercial pilots rating first. Can I get a Sport Pilot CFI easier?
And how does that effect my current PP-SEL certificate?
Could you tell me why there is no F airspace, why was F skipped.
I am British citizen who visits Florida five months every winter. I held a PPL issued by Singapore authorities some 50 years ago. I want to do LSA pilot refresher or even ab-initio training at Sebring this coming winter. Now Chief Instructor at Sebring says that non-American citzens cannot be given flight training since 9/11. For a Licensed GA Pilot who is not current (hasn't flown in a few years), and he wants to become a Sport Pilot for a Powered Parachute, can a current BFI in one of the training organizations complete his training in type and class and have a CFI do his check ride and endorse him for SP?
Can a private pilot applicant take his/her checkride in a LSA?
To become a Sport Pilot Instructor two written tests are required. Is the "Knowledge Test" to become a Sport Pilot Instructor/Airplane the same "Knowledge Test" taken by a student pilot working for a Sport Pilot/Airplane certificate? Do you have a link to sample test questions or the FAR describing the content for the Sport Pilot Instructor Knowledge Test?
Can a Sport Pilot Instructor who also has a private pilot certificate and a valid medical, use a C-152 to instruct SP students? (prior to solo, of course.) Can that same SP Instructor give tailwheel training and endorsements in a C-140, to already licensed Sport Pilots/Rec Pilots/Private Pilots?

Does a LSA Flight Instructor need a medical certificate? If so, type II?
I am a current Master CFI/II and have been a CFI since 1994. I would like to emphasize the Sport Pilot program and become a DPE for just the Sport Pilot Certificate. Is that possible for me to do? What do I need to do to become a DPE for Sport Pilot only Practical Tests?
What does an existing CFI (under subpart H) need to do to instruct sport pilot students?
Can a C-172 or a C-152 be used as an instructional aircraft for a Sport Pilot license? Subpart J states it must be a single engine aircraft so would a 4-seater like a 172 qualify as a SP instructional aircraft? I thought only a SLSA could be used as an instructional aircraft.
I am a current Private Pilot, and am interested in teaching Sport Pilots as I work my way up to CFI, my question is this: Can I accept payment for instruction as a Sport Pilot Instructor since I do not have a commercial? This doesn't seem to come up in the regulations, and it would seem that I cannot.
Could CFI flying as Sport Pilot give BFR to pilot in NON LSA plane assuming other pilot has medical & BFR has NOT EXPIRED?
Can an instructor with an expired CFI certificate renew his certificate for only the sport pilot level by taking the CFI-SP chekride, or does he have to take a regular CFI ride with the FSDO in a complex plane?

Any ASEL OK (other than LSA) for SPI-ASEL practical test? I am a private pilot ASEL/ASES with instrument rating and 400+ hours in various A/C. I have satisfied all the requirements for the SPORT PILOT INSTRUCTOR rating and am ready to take my practical test. Must I take the SPI checkride in an ASEL LSA or can I take the checkride in any ASEL for which I am qualified as PIC?
I am a CFI who has been approached by a student pilot with a single seat fat ultralight who wants to fly solo. I'm assuming he will need to registar the aircraft as an E-LSA first, then I could fly with him in a 2 seat standard or LSA aircraft to ensure proficentcy. Finally I could give the endoursment to fly solo in his single seat E-LSA. Is this true? Will an examiner give a practical test in a single seat E-LSA?
Can a GA examiner conduct checkrides for sportpilot?
In FAR 61.411 gives the details on what is needed to get your CFI sport pilots rating. My question is if you already have more than the minimum needed except the 15 hours as PIC in LSA aircraft, can you still apply or must you have that?

Hello. My question on becoming a sport pilot instructor (not being an existing CFI) pertains to the 150 hours of flight time requirement (airplane). I have over 100 hours logged in ultralights and about 70 hours logged as a licensed Recreational Pilot. Do the 100 ultralight hours count towards the 150? Or do all of the hours have to be "FAA hours?" Thanks!

Can a private pilot with an cfi-sp give a flight review to a pilot with a higher grade license even with a medical. also, can i give a tailwheel endorsement in a lsa
I recently received my Sport Pilot certificate endorsed in the AP-5 set. I was originally under the impression that because I had taken the test in >87 knot plane, that I could also fly the <87 knots. I seem to be hearing now that I will have to have another endorsement to fly planes <87 kts (AP-1). Is that so?
I’m a current CFI under subpart H that wants to instruct in both powered parachutes and weight shift control aircraft. What do I need to do?
I am an EAA member (No. 0621250). A couple of CFI's I spoke with commented that sport pilot instructors could not do Flight Reviews for private pilots operating under a private pilot license (with a 3rd class medical). I coown a e-LSA with a sport pilot instructor and would like to do my flight review with him (as a private pilot) - is this legal?
Can a CFI-SP (operating with driver’s license in lieu of a current FAA medical) charge money for giving instruction in a LSA?

Also, I read where a sport pilot cannot operate an LSA in furtherance of a business… any thoughts on what that means exactly, especially as it pertains to the question above? what about charging for pictures taken while acting as a sport pilot?
Where can I find a/the website that tells the distance in statute miles as the crow flies from one city to another.
Thanks Vern
I am a private pilot and now want to obtain a Sport Pilot after purchasing my own PPC. What must I do to be "ramp ready" or "current"? I have flown 20 plus hours in my aircraft (about 100 hrs total as pilot) Must I take more lessons or have a check ride with a CFI or can I be checked out in my aircraft with a BFI in PPC's? My N-Number is pending. It has been many years since my last ride in a fixed wing as Pilot in Command.
I hold a private pilot certificate. I am currently flying a single seat ELSA aircraft, and do not hold a current Medical. Can I receive a BFR in my single seat aircraft in accordance with the Sport Pilot Practical Test Standards?
Are there places in hawaii that offer sport training?
I cannot find a DPE in southeast Arizona. Are there any?
I am interested in LSA spot aircraft like the Tecnam or Gobosh, etc.
I have not flown for 15 years. I am a commercial pilot with over 3500 hours and used to be a CFI. I have a drivers licence. First, what do I have to do to fly and solo a SLA? Do I require more than a flight review?? To instruct in Sports aircraft, do I have to take both a written and flight test?

Who provides insurance for Sport Pilot Flight Schools? What are the restrictions - dual instructions vs student solo?
A plane is standing on a runway that can move (like a giant conveyor belt). This conveyor has a control system that tracks the planes speed and tunes the speed of the conveyor to be exactly the same (but in the opposite direction)
Will the plane take off?
I have a student that wants the >87 Kt endorsement.

Does the flight training for the Vh >87 KTS endorsement have to be completed in a light sport airplane, or can it be done in a standard airplane such as a Cessna 172? The Regulations just say "an aircraft".

"If you hold a sport pilot certificate and you seek to operate a light-sport aircraft that has a VH greater than 87 knots CAS you must—
(a) Receive and log ground and flight training from an
authorized instructor in an aircraft that has a VH greater than 87 knots CAS;..."
I am a CFI and a member of EAA interested in teaching sport pilots. My question is can a non-LSA qualified aircraft, like a Cessna 152, be used for the solo portion of the training?
I'm getting instruction (6hrs so far) in a two place Flightstar(trike) for my sport pilot license. I intend to buy a Firestar (tailwheel). Can I get an endorsement for tail wheel by getting dual instruction in a C-140, then get approved by my CFI to do my solo time in my Firestar?
On your site under Learn to Fly - What do I need to start you state that most flight instructors can provide a student pilot certificate. We have access to the 8710-11 application which can be printed off the FAA site. However we are being told that the student has to go to a FSDO to get the certificate. Our closest is 125 miles+ away. We would like to know how we as instructors can provide the student pilot certificate to the pilot candidate.

I used to be a CFII (expired in 1982-83) and I am a Basic and Instrument Ground Instructor (although I have not instructed since 1982). I would like to become a Sport Pilot Instructor. Do I have to retake the CFI and FOI written tests?
How do you endorse a student pilot to solo in a single seat airplane?
I am a CFI so can I legally instruct in an ELSA (Quicksilver) that I’ve never flown before or do I need 5 hours PIC first?
Heloo,
I'm preparing to get my CFIS in fixed wing airplanes, but I had two more questions:

61.415 (f) states that: You may not provide training to operate a light-sport aircraft in Class B, C, and D airspace, at an airport located in Class B, C, or D airspace, and to, from, through, or at an airport having an operational control tower, unless you have the endorsement specified in §61.325, or are otherwise authorized to
conduct operations in this airspace and at these airports.

What does it mean to be otherwise authorized? I am a commercially rated power pilot, does that mean I am autorized to give instruction into Class B, C or D airspace?

Also the same goes for the speed restriction:
(g) You may not provide training in a light-sport aircraft with a VH greater than 87 knots CAS unless you have the endorsement specified in §61.327, or are otherwise authorized to operate that light-sport aircraft.

Am I authorized???
I am a newly-minted Private Pilot hoping to eventually become a CFI or even CFII. Can time spent as a Sport Pilot Instructor be logged towards total time? If so, would it therefore be legal and sensible to become a SPI when I have the required hours and use that free flying to gain enough hours for a Commercial and CFI? Does an SPI require a Commercial ticket?
I hold commercial SEL, MEL, IA. My medical is not current. I am working on a sport pilot instructor certificate, but it appears that I will need spin training. Since none of the LSAs that I know about can legally do spins, how can I get a spin endorsement without getting a medical?
Hello, I have a European Sport Pilot License (From Germany) is there any way to get credit for that back home in the US? Can I convert that to a Sport Pilot license? If so how?
What category can a Sport Pilot Instructor legally instruct in and receive compensation. S-LSA I understand but am confused about the E-LSA.
Can a CFI Sport Pilot give a BFR to a Private Pilot?
A Sub Part H CFI may give instruction under 61.109(b) & 61.107(b) leading to a Private Pilot ASEL Certificate, including a Recreational Pilot Certificate under 61.98, AND a Sport Pilot Certificate under 61.311.

Can a Sport Pilot Instructor, Sub part H, provide any of the flight and ground instruction given under 61.311 toward a students Private Pilot requirements under 61.105 and 61.107(b)

That is, may a Sub Part H instructor provide the approximate 80% of a Student Private Pilots flight and ground instruction?

Put in another way, in what manner has the FAA provided for crediting instructional time by a non-ICAO Sub part H instructor toward an ICAO Private Pilot Certificate?
If I was to become a flight instructor, would I be able to use a E-LSA? Or only S-LSAs or standard category aircraft that meets the definition? Also, if the student wanted to use his own plane, could I be compensated for instruction in his aircraft, even if it was registered experimental or E-LSA?
Several questions on being a Sport Pilot Instructor:
- When signing a student's logbook, what abbreviation may a Sport Pilot instructor use? ex: SP-CFI, SPI, or just CFI???
- Since a private pilot or above can take a flight review in any aircraft they are qualified to fly, can they be given a flight review in a LSA by a Sport Pilot Instructor and still be legal to fly larger aircraft?
I have over 2000 hrs as flight instructor airplane single engine land, 44hrs Powered Parachute through ASC part 103.

Respectfully,

I am a current private pilot with ASEL & ASES ratings and a tailwheel endorsement as well as an AGI certificate. If I were to obtain a sport pilot CFI certificate, would I be allowed to provide sport pilot instruction in land, sea/amphib, & tailwheel sport planes?
The sport pilot rules say: "No flights while carrying a passenger or property for compensation, hire, or "Prohibited from flying in furtherance of a business."

Does this mean that a sport pilot can not become a Sport Pilot CFI and then give flight instruction?
I am a private pilot. If I wanted to obtain a CFI rating for Sport Pilot and instruct for hire, would I also need a Commercial license with an instrument rating?
If I am a helicopter CFI, and hold a fixed wing comm license, can I acquire sport pilot fixed wing instructors priveleges thru an endorsement and a proficiency check.
Is there a list of current FBOs that have LSA aircraft availab le for rent/lessons?
I was reading the endorsements for student pilots seeking a sport pilot certificate (AC 61-65E) and I wanted to know the difference between endorsement 19 and 20. They both seem very similar to me, what's the difference?
I am a private pilot (flying under sport pilot rule). I am working towards getting my SP Instructors rating. I have passed both written tests and have been taking instruction from a CFI. I was about to get ready for my practical test and the DFE said he understood, from what he was told at Oshkosh, that because this was an "initial" test for being an instructor, I would need to get it from a FAA examiner? He could not do it. Is this correct?
Can an existing CFI use a light sport aircraft (SLA) to take a student all the way through a single engine private pilot program.
Does a CFI (non sport pilot) need 5 hours make and model or does he just have to comply with the same category/class rating from his CFI?
My wife is a private pilot with about 200 hours. I've read the regs and understand that she can get a sport pilot CFI. However, can she do this for compensation with only a private pilot certificate?
I am a current CFI-G, have a Sport Pilot license, and own a Sting Sport aircraft. What do I need to do to upgrade my CFI-G to CFI Sport?
I see that there are many Light Sport Aircraft that are equipped with floats. I am currently obtaining my CFI-SP and wondering what requirements there are to fly/instruct in a light sport float plane. Are there any?
I am a helicopter CFI. I have logged zero time in airplanes. How do I become a CFI for Light Sport? Do I need to get 50 hours in Cat. and Class then seek the endorsment to teach in LSA? I already meet the 150 hours in powered Aircraft.
I'm a commercial pilot and a CFI-A-I-MEI. I don't have a current medical certificate but it has not been denied; I just haven't applied for a renewal since it expired 30 Nov 06. I still do some instruction with pilots who are qualified to be PIC. I want to get a seaplane rating and, without a med cert, I will have to do that in an LSA seaplane. Question 1: If I do that, will I be able to act as a CFI is non-LSA seaplanes? Question 2: Do you know any place where LSA seaplane instruction is available; preferable in the west.
I am a private pilot SEL/SES with 200 hours. Do I need a commercial license in order to be an LSA instructor?
Under the rules, as a Sport Pilot Instructor flying without a medical, can I set up an LLC to provide flight instruction and rental in S-LSA aircraft owned by my LLC?
HAVE YOU FOUND WHETHER A SPORT PILOT CFI CAN GIVE A FLIGHT REVIEW AND TAILWHEEL ENDORSEMENT TO A PERSON WITH A HIGHER GRADE LICENSE YET. EVEN IF THAT PERSON HAS A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE JUST SO LONG AS IT IS IN AN LSA.
I am taking the King CFI-LS written course now and noticed that there doesn't seem to be much difference between the content of that and any other CFI course. Would I be better off taking the CFI written, then the light sport practical rather than just taking the sport pilot instructor test?
My CFI rating is not current - it has been at least 15 years since last used - If I just want to instruct in light sport aircraft (light sport students) - is the program different to get my instructor rating current? Also will my 3rd class phyiscal be ok (for instructing light sport)?
I am a commercial pilot with a ground instructors license. I would like to be a CFI for LSA-WC ultralights only. Can I get a CFI rating to instruct in LSA ultralightsonly. Do I have to get a CFI rating IN SEL too?
Do I need to take the Sport Pilot test before I take the CFI test?
I am currently a student pilot, working on my Sport Pilot ticket. Although I live in Georgia, I was hoping to fly my Experimental Ikarus C22 in the area of Cecil county, in North Maryland. Over the holidays, I spoke to a guy at Cecil County Airport (58M) who tells me that I must finish the ADIZ training before FEB 08, 2009. Do I need to have my Sport Pilots License before I take that training ? What happens to pilots in that area who do their training after Feb 08, 2009?
Is a Sport Pilot Instructor (SPI?) required to have a current FAA medical, or is a valid driver license all that is needed?
I am a commercial/instrument pilot with 1700 hours. I am considering becoming a Sport Pilot Instructor. Although I am a commercial pilot I have never used the rating. I do NOT maintain a 2nd class medical, only 3rd class. Am I elegible to pursue a Sport Pilot Instructor's rating and charge for my services without maintaining all of my Commercial license requirement?
What are the requirements to become a designated pilot examiner for sport pilot category only?
I have a person who is a F/W S/P CFI who wants to add on Gyroplane S/P CFI. Is there a minimum number of hours this person would need before being able to instruct in Gyroplanes. I realize there is no minimum hours for the person to take the proficiency check.

As a CFI-SP (subpart K) and a Private Pilot, may I perform all the duties of a Basic Ground Instructor for private pilot candidates at a Part 141 Pilot School? If not, must I also earn a Basic Ground School Instructor certificate to do this? If so, what additional Knowledge Tests and/or endorsements must I have? I can't find any differences between the areas covered on knowledge test I passed for the CFI-SP and the stated requirements for Basic Ground Instructor.
What are the qualifications required of the flight instructor for training first-time flight instructor applicants in Sport Pilot? Do they need to have held a flight instructor certificate for at least 24 months and have given at least 200 hours of flight training as a flight instructor?
I am a CFI-Glider with a private SEL rating as well. If I am reading the regs/rules right to get a CFI-SP for a airplane LSA like a Piper Cub, all I need is 5 hours in the aircraft and a flight with a CFI-SP or CFI-Airplane for recommendation and then a different CFI-SP or CFI-Airplane can give the practical exam and the rating. Is this correct???
I'm a 240 hour Private Pilot, have taken the FOI and AGI writtens and now have my AGI certificate. Have a tailwheel endorsement. Is it true that all I need to do in order to become a sport pilot cfi is train with a sp cfi until they are satisfied with my progress and be endorsed for the written test and the practical checkride. Thanks JOE
It is my understanding that a Person holding a PSEL who is also a SP CFI can now somehow teach the SP Private Pilot rating in the categories that they are CFI's in. I was recently told that this was an exemption held by EAA ... any confirmation of this?
As a tailwheel qualified sport pilot instructor can I give tail wheel endorsements (using a LSA qualified airplane) to a person holding a PPL? And if so is it the same endorsement that they would get from a regular CFI? If so does that mean that being a SPI limits my ability to training in LSA aircraft but the tailwheel endorsement is not limited to LSA aircraft when issued to someone holding a PPL?
I have a private pilots SEL certificate with a tailwheel endorsement, do I need a commercial certificate to get a LSA instructor certificate also how do I go about being a LSA instructor.

Hi. I am a Private Pilot and would like to become a CFI-SP. My question pertains to the cross-country requirements. According to the FAR, you are required to have 25 hours cross-country time, 10 of which are in a single-engine airplane.

I know for a PPL, the cross-country flight must be 50 nm in a straight line from point of departure. For a Sport Pilot license, you need a cross-country with one segment being at least 25 nm.

My question is, what distance does the cross-country flight need to be in order to qualify for a CFI-SP? Since 25 nm segment is required to get your Sport Pilots License, can I log any flight that is 25 nm or more as cross-country time which will qualify for a CFI-SP or do the cross-country flight have to be at least 50 nm.
EAA has a list of sport pilot instructors, but is there any listing of flight schools that are currently offering Sport Pilot Training and/or rentals?

Hi,
Time requirement aside, from what I can see, a Private Pilot wanting to become a Sport Pilot Instructor need only take the necessary training and written tests, then do the Checkride? No Commercial Rating required? I understand this is not the route everyone goes, but I think this suits me better.
